(This is a post I posted about six months ago on my friends blog, and I thought I would put it on here too.)
“1 Corinthians 1:9 - God, who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.”
“He’s faithful to the end. He’s faithful to my heart. He’s faithful to the end. He will come and marry me.”
He is faithful. He has called us into fellowship with His Son.
The dictionary definition of faithful is “worthy of trust; doing one’s duty; keeping one’s promise; loyal; true”. He goes way beyond the dictionary definition of faithful.
He isn’t faithful just part of the time.
He is always faithful.
Faithfulness is part of who He is, and if He was were to be unfaithful to just one of His children He would be being unfaithful to Himself.
He would be disowning Himself.
He is faithful even when we turn away and forsake Him.
He is faithful to us even when we want nothing to do with Him.
Even though we are messed up and broken sinners He still keeps His promises.
He doesn’t forsake us when we walk away from Him,
He’s always right there with us through our doubts and our pain, because He is faithful, He is true.
He goes beyond our definition of loyalty.
The dictionary defines loyalty as, “True and faithful to love; true and faithful to one’s promise.”
He is loyal to His love for us, there’s nothing we can do to make Him love us any less.
He looks at our hurting and messed up hearts and is overcome with love.
He’s faithful to our hearts, because He is faithful to His love.
Even when we leave Him behind and chase after other things to satisfy us, when we chase after the things of this world looking for love, He is faithful, even then He is faithful. To do something out of love is doing something simply because of love, not to get anything in return. Having the desire for the other person’s happiness.
The dictionary defines true as “real, genuine, faithful, loyal, exact, unchanging."
His faithfulness is real, it’s genuine, it never changes. It is exactly what He says it is.
It doesn’t change base on the reaction He gets from us.
It doesn’t change based on the condition of our hearts.
It’s always there.
He chooses to call us his beloved. The love God has for His bride cannot be untied, it is the only eternal love. His love is faithful to the end. It never gives up. It will never end, because it has no end. He is faithful today and He always will be faithful. His faithful is out of His eternal love.
There is no love apart from God.
He “has called us into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ. (1 Cor. 1:9)” The fellowship he has called us into is ongoing, it’s eternal. It isn’t just a one-time hanging out with Him kinda thing. It’s a relationship with Him that never stops. It goes on and on. It’s meant for everyday. He’s always there with us, in fellowship with us, because we have the Holy Spirit inside of us. We are called to be set apart for Christ. He is forever faithful.
Jesus holds us in an intimate fellowship with Him constantly. He cannot let us go. And even when we mess up and are unworthy of his love He’s not going to leave us behind for someone else. He’s going to pick us back up and carry us through. We don’t have to be worthy of his love, because He is worthy. He is forever faithful. Faithfulness and trust go hand in hand. Faithfulness is who God is and always will be and trust is us learning to place everything in His hands, in His love, and in his faithfulness.
